About Aether

Our mission

Aether makes air quality data understandable for everyone. Air pollution affects how we commute, exercise, travel, and raise families — yet raw pollutant numbers and inconsistent scales confuse more than they help. We built Aether to translate that complexity into a clear Air Quality Index (AQI), hourly forecasts, and plain-language guidance you can use in seconds.

The service is free, requires no account, and works for cities worldwide. Whether you are checking smog in Delhi, wildfire smoke in California, or winter inversion in Johannesburg, Aether gives you the same simple dashboard experience.

How data is sourced

Air quality estimates are provided by Open-Meteo using CAMS (Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service) satellite and model data. Where available, ground station readings are integrated from the World Air Quality Index (WAQI) network. Weather forecast details — temperature, wind, humidity, and conditions icons — also come from Open-Meteo.

Modelled and station-based data vary in accuracy by region. Rural areas may rely more heavily on models; dense urban networks may have richer ground truth. Aether presents the best available estimate for your coordinates but cannot guarantee real-time precision at street level.

For medical decisions, workplace safety compliance, or official public health alerts, always follow guidance from your national or local environmental health authority.

Editorial standards

Our blog articles are researched and written for a general audience. They explain established science on particulate matter, ozone, and health risk in accessible language. We cite widely accepted frameworks such as WHO air quality guidelines and standard AQI colour bands. We do not publish unverified health claims, anti-science content, or articles copied from other websites.

Guides are updated periodically as standards and best practices evolve. If you spot an error, contact us and we will review it promptly.

Location features

With your permission, Aethercan use your device's location to show air quality near you. You may also search for any city or address. Your last selected location may be stored locally in your browser for convenience — we do not sell location data.
